Only un-split Gewil Torah Scrolls satisfy all serious legal issues in the Talmud -- according to ALL legal opinions, while reconciling the  Rambam and Tosafot and has the full endorsement of the Chief Sephardic Rabbi of Israel.  Many Ashkenaz authorities also insist on it now, because of the convergence of halakhic opinions that have been reconciled with its use.

  • WHICH SIDE TO USE: Today's arguments about which side of the split-hide to write upon are totally avoided. In the past, this has hotly divided many of our communities.

  • TALMUDIC LIBUD: Only Gewil utilizes ancient "L'ibud" (leather preparation) process, mentioned as a Talmudic requirement by the Rambam zs"l, utilized by only one Holy Scribe today. The full-hide is what made the scrolls at Qumron (lehavdil) so strong.

  • SPLITTING METHOD IS NOW LOST: Arguments about how to properly split the hide, according to halakha, are totally avoided and unnecessary- as this method was lost long ago.

Gewil IS EXTREMLY STRONG

TRY CRUMBLING Gewil WITH YOUR HANDS: It automatically contorts back into its original, flat and smooth shape, with NO WRINKLES.

PICTURED BELOW: Only "Gewil" is prepared according to the Talmudic process of L'ibud. Only our kelaf and Gewil is tanned with salt, flour and tanners--in accordance with the RAMBAM. No Lime is ever used.

All of our parchment is prepared according to the required (leather cleaning/preparation) process described in the Talmud --commonly referred to as L'ibud. Unfortunately, most of the processes used by most other sofrim (scribes) today (ie: the way in which the leather is cleaned and turned into parchment) may not be good enough in the eyes of the Talmud, since most their "I'ibud" is done with only lime today. This is not only a problem with tefillin, but with anything written on parchment today. Only our kelaf and Gewil is tanned with salt, flour and tanners--in accordance with the Talmud.
